June 2026 Heatwave Update - Lecture Postponed

Dear Members

Sorry we couldn’t meet for our lecture, but James will be with us for a hopefully cooler date in the Autumn.

We thought you would like to see the intro screens slide show that we missed showing you yesterday … it's on YouTube for a month for all to see (click on the link below).

The Lee Flower Show is coming up on the 18th July and we’ll have a stand. Please let us know if you can do a stint on the stall, your help will be much appreciated.

Also, we really really need a committee secretary as Margaret stands down after the AGM. The main role responsibilities are organising and minuting our committee meetings (4 -6 a year) and the AGM plus liaising with The Arts Society intermittently. It’s an enjoyable role with a fun team. Please consider it and let Susanne, Irma or Margaret know if you’d like to chat about it. Our email is artsocballinger@gmail.com

Many thanks everyone and looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting …. Time Machines, Pimms and the AGM

Paul Roberts - Pompeii

Pompeii Rescheduled

Paul Roberts, who was to deliver the April Lecture on Pompeii, unexepectedly found himself unable to come.

Good News - Paul has rescheduled to come to us on 25th February 2027. Make a diary note!

All The World's A Stage - Simon Whitehouse

All The World's A Stage ...

April 2026 Lecture change; Simon Whitehouse steps into the breach.

Our April Lecture on Pompeii was due to be given by Paul Roberts but unexepectedly he was unable to come.

We urgently needed a replacement lecturer. You will expect that most lecturers are busy visiting societies across the country, alongside their day jobs. Ros and Liz, your programme secretaries, spent a lot of time and effort finding one with a gap in their schedule. At last they secured the agreement of the inimitable Simon Whitehouse to come and lecture on the history of theatre.

His talk "All The World's A Stage: From Ancient Greece to the National Theatre- 2500 Years of Theatre In An Hour!" is greatly anticipated.
