Introduction

We are a friendly rural member society of The Arts Society.

We meet monthly for illustrated art-based lectures on a wide variety of subjects by professional speakers in their specialist fields. It is usually possible to welcome members' friends and visitors to attend as guests. Our meetings are held in the evening and provides the chance for those who work during the day to join us. Scroll down for the "Join Us" panel.

Above all we want to offer interest and enjoyment in a convivial environment. We organize visits to art galleries, museums and places of special historic or architectural interest. Click on Events to see our Programme.

The Arts Society brings people together through a shared curiosity for the arts. We provide welcoming places – locally, nationally and globally – to hear expert lecturers share their specialist knowledge about the arts. The 60,000+ members contribute to and preserve our artistic heritage through volunteering and grants. The belief that the arts have the potential to enrich peoples’ lives is at the heart of everything we do.

What The Arts Society Ballinger (ASB) Delivers to You

We offer you a carefully constructed calendar designed to deepen your appreciation of the arts, whether you are looking for an evening of insight or an immersive cultural journey:

  • ASB Talks: Our flagship Lectures are held at the historic Ballinger Hall in Buckinghamshire. Each month, we host world-class experts who bring art, history, and culture to life through illustrated talks that are as entertaining as they are educational.
  • ASB Study Days: For members who want to dive deeper, our Study Days offer members an immersive exploration of a single subject. Led by renowned experts, these sessions provide a full morning and afternoon of illustrated talks and discussion, delivering a much richer understanding than a single lecture can provide. Recent past study days have included ‘Paul and John Nash’ and the ‘Pottery girls’ with the ‘Art of Cornwall 1880-1975’ scheduled for January 2027.
  • ASB Trips: Carefully planned one-day Excursions to venues related to all aspects of the arts with expert-led tours that you won't find on a typical solo visit.
