Happy New Year! from Hilary Kay, President of The Arts Society

Happy New Year! Here at The Arts Society we are always looking to grow and evolve.

In our winter issue of ‘The Arts Society Magazine’, we met our new President, Hilary Kay, who shared her hopes with us for the next five to 10 years.

With a successful background in art and antiques, much of Hilary’s career has been spent broadening the field to as many people as possible. This passion for accessibility is something that she intends to bring to her role as President, as she aims to make arts education for UK schools and communities a priority – along with connecting with other arts organisations overseas.

To guarantee future success, then, does The Arts Society have a ‘secret weapon’? For Hilary, this lies with our powerful network of arts lecturers. With the backdrop of rising concerns over the validity and accuracy of online content, she is quick to praise the authentic and trusted nature of our lecturers’ material.

And finally, if you’re looking to try something new this year, Hilary has some powerful reflections on the value of being an Arts Society member. Recalling her visits to Arts Society meetings, she identified the powerful sense of community spirit felt by all, with people arranging get-togethers and talking animatedly, be it a discussion over ‘the upcoming lecture or the cricket’.

These are just three things that we learnt about Hilary’s key goals for her presidency.
