Lecture One

We begin the story of 20th century fashion design as looking at the fashions of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras and move through to the glamour of the 1920s and the 1930s eras. We will examine the fashions, textiles and accessories themselves and also trace how they were influenced by social and contemporary history.

Lecture Two

We continue our journey through 20th century fashion and textile history with the austerity of the 1940s, the ‘new look’ of Christian Dior and the modernist fashions of the 1950s, the liberating styles of the 1960s and the avant-garde fashions of the 1970s to the present day.

Lecture Three

In this ‘hands on’ interactive session, you will have the opportunity to see and handle museum quality clothing and accessories including shawls, shoes, handbags and hats. You will also hear about Sally’s work with the costume designers for major worldwide television and film productions such as Downton Abbey. You are welcome to bring along your own items of vintage and antique fashion, accessories and jewellery for appraisal and valuation as part of the afternoon session.
